Welcome to the OFFICIAL WEB site of the CHARLOTTE-GENESEE LIGHTHOUSE HISTORICAL SOCIETY Thank you for your interest in the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse. The lighthouse is located in the village of Charlotte (at the Port of Rochester, NY) . The Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society is entrusted to maintain the Lighthouse property including the Keeper 's House and Tower for the County of Monroe which owns the property and buildings on it. The lighthouse was built in 1822. The Current Keeper’s House was built in 1863 to replace the original one which was just to the south of the current building. Our regular weekend tours begin on Saturday, May 10, 2008 and will end on Oct. 26, 2008. Other times Special Group Tours are available by calling (585) 621-6179 for an appointment. ANNUAL CHARLOTTE PHOTO CONTEST 2009 The Kiwanis Club of Charlotte Lake Ontario and the Charlotte Harbor Merchants announce the Seventh Annual Charlotte Photo Contest for 2009. This contest gives local photographers an opportunity to show off their artistic talent and their unique photographic views of Charlotte and the surrounding area. “We are happy to continue a tradition from the past which will stimulate everyone to take photos of the Charlotte area” states Rick Palumbo, owner of the LDR Char Pit. Enter your favorite photo (limit 2 per person), of a subject within the last 12 months in the “Village” of Charlotte or surrounding area and taken by you, of course. It can be a beach scene, the lighthouse, the carousel, people, etc.There are 3 Divisions: Professional, Amateur and Student (under18 years old). There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner in each Division. The prizes including $25.00 cash for the 1st place winners and gift certificates for area businesses will be provided by the LDR Char Pit, Mr. Dominic’s, Nola’s Waterfront BBQ, Windjammers, Lakeside Floral & Antique Gallery & others. Criteria for judging will include subject matter, composition, technique, lighting effects, uniqueness and perspective. Further questions call Fred @ 621-5605.
